No Human Is Illegal - A Documentary About Refugees Detained on Lesvos
I am releasing on YouTube today free of charge my feature documentary NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL, 2018, about the people variously referred to as "refugees" or "irregular migrants" who are currently detained indefinitely on the Greek island of Lesvos. The main refugee camp of Lesvos, Camp Moria, run by the EU, is representative of one of the darkest and most seminal political historical events of the start of the 21st century: the founding of a zone of exclusion within the Eurozone. The horrendous conditions in the hideously overcrowded camp are an affront to even the most minimal standard of human rights.
By chance, I and my small crew arrived on the island just two weeks after the European Council published its new policy, in brief, it began: “All new irregular migrants crossing from Turkey into Greek islands as from 20 March 2016 will be returned to Turkey.”
We listened to what people who fled their homes and came to Europe had to say about their lives, their families and their goals. We also speak extensively with the inhabitants of the island and the volunteers. On the lives of people forced to flee their homes and cross national borders in search of safety, NO HUMAN IS ILLEGAL provides an historical perspective that is also a personal one.
I urge you to watch this committed film on this vitally important subject , share the link to the film in your social media and feel free to open discussions in the comment section.
